Tet on the Island
Tet, the Lunar New Year, transforms Phu Quoc, and experiencing it at Bamboo Cottages is a privilege we prepare for all winter. The island fills with flowers, peach and apricot branches appear in doorways, and the air acquires a festive buzz that even the sea seems to approve of.
At the cottages we celebrate quietly and warmly. The kitchen prepares traditional dishes, banh chung wrapped in banana leaves, candied fruits, spring rolls that vanish faster than they can be plated. Staff wear their best clothes and visit family on the mainland in shifts, so the celebration belongs to everyone.
Guests are invited to everything: the flower market in Duong Dong, the midnight fireworks reflected in the flat sea, the first-morning walk when every local you meet wishes you a happy new year with both hands. Children fly kites until the kites win. The beach, for one week, is a parade of families and bright clothes.
If your travel dates can bend, Tet is a beautiful time to see the island at its most alive. Book early, bring an appetite, and be ready to be wished a prosperous year by strangers who mean it.
