Workout

The daily workout at Bamboo Cottages is posted each morning on the blackboard by the kitchen, and it has a loyal following among guests who like their sweat with a sea view. Sessions run early, before the heat earns its salary, and take place on the flat sand in front of the cottages.

No two days are alike. Monday might be a sand-dune interval session that ends in the sea. Wednesday could be a full-body circuit with driftwood, ropes and coconuts standing in for everything a gym pretends you need. Friday favors long, slow strength: carries, holds, crawls, and a finisher that the group pretends to hate and secretly loves.

Everything scales. The trainer watches newcomers closely and adjusts without ceremony, the workout bends to the person, never the reverse. Soreness arrives on schedule, so do the recovery tools: cool sea, fruit plates, and hammocks engineered by evolution for exactly this purpose.

Drop in for one session or come every morning of your stay. Bring water, a hat and the understanding that sand makes everything honest. You will leave with shoulders like a swimmer and stories like a sailor.
